Latest News UNICUT PRECISION AUTOMATES TOOL SUPPLY CONTROL AND ORDERING Go back A fully automated tool dispensing system linked to its management information network that will track tool usage against jobs and automatically initiate re-order as stocks are used, has been installed in Unicut Precision’s Welwyn Garden City subcontract machine shop. The point of use AutoCrib 2000 gives access to 2,500 individual items and will be servicing the 18 CNC mill/turn machines at Welwyn. These machines produce mostly complex, multifeatured parts for the medical, aerospace, automotive, brewing, computing, oil and gas, telecommunications and valve sectors. Some machines, such as the three Citizen M series sliding head mill/turn lathes, can carry up to 80 tools. Each employee has a swipe card and will enter the appropriate works order number either via a bar code reader or key number input to obtain tooling, toolholders, and safety products. The system also records return transactions and will give traceable information to show which items are being used on certain machines. In addition, the management system will track fast and slow moving items and eliminate repackaging and possible contamination and damage that often occurs in normal open pigeon hole storage systems. Said Jason Nicholson joint managing director: “We will be able to check tool availability and order new tools when programming a new job. Not only will this system save setters chasing around the workshop looking for tooling by its automatic ordering, but this will also significantly reduce clerical and management time. The system will also maintain our independence and enable us to have preference for certain suppliers and tool types without being tied to one company which can be a problem with some systems being supplied by tool vendors on the market.”
