NEW ELECTRONIC ASSEMBLY GIVES UNICUT TOTAL CONTROL

Building a clean room in the production area of the Welwyn Garden City facility has paid dividends for Unicut Precision as it was a key element in securing a contract to initially supply 5,000 assemblies a year for direct to line delivery at the customer. The contract, which involves the machining of 11 components, also includes 10 bought-in items and special processes, test and packaging.

Said Charles Kenny: “The project involves us taking full responsibility to deliver the level of quality for a fully tested unit direct to the customer’s final assembly line, so we were subjected to very close scrutiny prior to the contract placement. Not only was the customer full of confidence in our ability due to the management, quality processes and skills in use, the level of machine tool and support equipment installed but he was also especially impressed by the variety of complex components we produce in single cycle operations.”

To which Jason Nicholson adds: “This contract is very important to us as it extends our precision machining capability and the responsibility of adding part supply with assembly. This puts us firmly in control of the whole project allowing us to maximise our flexibility in machining operations to meet the production requirements.”

As part of the contract Unicut will machine components out of stainless steel, aluminium, brass and plastic and purchase electronic items, special seals and electrical connectors. The processes also require specialist plating and a grinding operation carried out by contractors, and following assembly and final testing in the clean room, assemblies are labelled, packaged and delivered direct to the customer’s assembly line.
