| NEW DEFENCE CONTRACT COMPONENTS PACKAGE WON BY |

An 11 part pneumatic valve component involving complete kit supply has been won by Unicut Precision of Welwyn Garden City and has pulled components away from subcontractors’ schedules in Eastern Europe. The initial year contract will involve batches of parts from 400 to 12,000 and will include Unicut providing finishing processes such as protective coatings.
Said joint managing director Jason Nicholson: “Our customer has revised its purchasing policy to reduce the number of suppliers and when the whole project was analysed, focusing on consistency of supply capability, price and our ability to deliver the complete kit of parts against a stocking agreement, it was found we were more competitive than that which even Eastern European suppliers could achieve when supplying previously.”
Important considerations by the customer were the installed base of machines and here Unicut will be using its Miyano ABX-64 TH2 Super-Turning Centre, two BNJ-42 fixed-head, turn-mill centres and three of its 25 Citizen CNC sliding head lathes, an M32, L20 and K16.
In addition, when Unicut was visited by the customer, the high quality cleaning system installation and use of non-contact measurement with automated quality reporting and analysis impressed those responsible for the project placement.
Once assembled by the customer, the components will form part of an attachment to military vehicles for use in overseas operations and due to the expendable nature of the device it will require quick delivery against agreed maximum and minimum stockholding at Welwyn Garden City.
Said joint managing director Charles Kenny: “We are finding more of our customers want us to supply complete kits of parts due to the flexibility of service we can offer from the machines and equipment we have installed. We are also being asked to quote for and are winning more contracts for components previously supplied from overseas as UK customers are becoming more concerned over security of supply and widely varying prices.” |
